Status

Where GRAT actually is.

An app that refuses to overstate the weather should not overstate itself either. This page says what works today, what is being built, and what is still missing.

Right now

iPhone appRisk engine, radar, Companion Mode, official warnings, barometer trend.
Apple Watch appThe last verdict, its reason, and how old the reading is.
App StoreVersion 1.0 submitted; waiting in the review queue.
LanguagesEnglish, German and Turkish throughout the app.
AndroidNo. One person, and the barometer and background work are built on Apple APIs.
ServersNone. The app talks to the weather services directly — which is why there is no account and no tracking.

Being built

Where the data is thin

GRAT is only as good as the services underneath it, and they are not equally good everywhere. The app says so on screen rather than filling the gap with a guess.

RegionCoverage
Germany, Austria, SwitzerlandStrongest. High-resolution model, radar and official warnings all present.
Rest of the Alps and EuropeGood. Model and official warnings; radar varies by country.
TürkiyeOfficial warnings and airport observations; no high-resolution local radar.
United StatesNational warnings and radar; the model is global rather than local.
ElsewhereGlobal model only. The app will tell you when that is all it has.

What it still cannot do

It is not a nowcast. It cannot tell you that a particular cell will hit your ridge in twenty minutes. No consumer app can, and the ones that imply it are guessing.

It sends nothing while it is closed. There is no server to push to you; Companion Mode has to be running.

It never recommends a route. Setting off, going on, turning back — those stay yours.

Found something wrong?

The most useful thing you can send is a day you actually remember on the mountain where the app got it wrong. That is worth more to this project than a download: support@gratweather.com.
